Have you been missing Kristy, Mary Anne, Stacey, Claudia, and The Baby-Sitters Club? We’ve been in mourning ever since Netflix canceled its Baby-Sitters Club TV series in 2022. But with a beloved series like Ann M. Martin’s The Baby-Sitters Club, we should have known this wouldn’t be the last we heard from the girls. Now they’re heading to the stage! The best-selling book series is being developed into a stage musical. Here’s everything we know about it so far.

Kristy's Great Idea cover

Mark your calendars and book your flights to New York in spring 2027, because that’s when the new Baby-Sitters Club musical is set to premiere. The musical is set twelve years after the events of the books (which were originally published from 1986 to 2000). Now adults, the four founding members of the Baby-Sitters Club—Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey—return to their hometown of Stoneybrook, CT to honor the pact they made with each other when they were thirteen years old. As the four women reflect on their past lives, the friendships, and the hardships, they come to some life-changing realizations about themselves and what matters most.

The musical is being developed by TWTheatricals and will be brought to life with a book by Kate Wetherhead (The Devil Wears Prada), music and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick (KPop Demon Hunters), and direction and choreography by Annie Tippe (Octet).

The Baby-Sitters Club series introduced the original girl bosses, shaping and inspiring the lives of millions of young women and girls then—and still today,” TWTheatricals Producing Artistic Director Barbara Pasternack said in a statement. “For adults who loved the books, it taps into a shared sense of nostalgia, inviting each of us to revisit the memories that shaped us while reflecting on how far we’ve come. For audiences of any age, it’s an inspiring story of friendship, empowerment, and finding your own voice, and a reminder that our stories are always evolving. And the score is amazing!”

What can we expect from the music? Sonnenblick plans to honor the girls’ roots as children of the ’80s and ’90s. So you can expect songs inspired by some of the big names in rock from that era—like Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, and Shania Twain. “We’re just very excited for everyone to hang out with the club in Stoneybrook,” Sonnenblick says. “Whether it’s your first time or your five hundredth.”

Author Ann M. Martin is just as thrilled about the project as everyone else is. Martin told USA Today, “What a great idea! I love musicals and am excited to see the adventures of Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, and Stacey come to life on stage. I’m humbled by the ongoing popularity of the series, and couldn’t be more thrilled by this news.”

Workshop performances for the show will start in November of this year. The musical is then aiming to have an out-of-town premiere in late 2026. Then, the Baby-Sitters will head back to New York for an official premiere in spring 2027. Can’t make it to New York to see the show? Don’t worry. A national tour is planned for later in 2027 or early 2028. So everyone will get a chance to see the show soon enough. Are you as excited as we are?
