I’m the friend who, immediately after Labor Day, starts to ask if it’s fall yet. I know summer isn’t over until late September, but there I am, every year, chomping at the pumpkin-spiced bit to get my hands on all the gourd and apple and cinnamon-flavored things that come with my favorite season. Now that the autumnal equinox has come and gone, I have the green light to go full fall feral without angering the summer people. You can catch me whipping up soups and stews and tea blends while dancing to Fleetwood Mac in my kitchen, rewatching Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic, and of course, mainlining all the cozy reads I’ve saved to read this time of year in equally cozy clothing.
If you’re looking for some bookish sweatshirts to get properly into sweater season, you’ve come to the right place. These selections lean into the fall of it all with the usual autumnal imagery—gourds, leaves, steaming cups of something, stacks of books, etc. They’re cute and cozy, sometimes ghosty, and some kind of bookish. All of them would very much like a place in your closet. They’re definitely going in mine!
Hot tip: as of this writing, most of the items below are on sale for less than the listed prices. Happy shopping, and happy fall!
