‘It was a rainy day, the sunrise vanished from the sky, and the flower remained silent. The soul was infected by the disease, and the people wondered when that day would end. My name is Ren, and this is my diary. I will share with you what happened and how the city was destroyed.'

The gathering.

Years have passed since we first discovered the disease, and many people have suffered from it. The leader of the council, Professor Chambers, has decided to gather all the members of the council to discuss the disease and to share what he has discovered. The Council has five members:

I. Professor Robert Chambers, leader of the council.

II. General Phillips, leader of the army.

III. Mr Thomas Moore, leader of finance.

IV. Dr Henry Connelly, leader of health.

V. Professor Nora Archer, leader of knowledge.

All of them sat at one table surrounded by hundreds of nobles. I was ten years old when they began the gathering, and in that moment, the gathering changed our lives forever.

Professor Chambers, the leader of the council, stood up and began his speech.

‘We are gathered today to find hope for our city,' said Professor Chambers. ‘The city has lived for a long time in fear and sadness. Members of this council and all nobles, let us be wise in this gathering'

Professor Chambers finished his speech, and I knew his heart must be filled with sadness. I'd heard he lost his son Daniel, but that no one knew how he died. Professor Chambers never shared with anyone about his son's death. He just seemed perpetually sad.

After Professor Chambers finished his speech, my mother began to explain the situation.

‘The disease is called the hidden,' said my mother. ‘It silences people once they get infected. The hidden only infects humans at the age of thirty, and it's not a deadly disease.'

‘The dis—'

‘We should isolate the infected before we become one of them,' interrupted Mr Moore.

‘Isolate them?!' exclaimed Dr Connelly. ‘Many nobles who are in this council have family members who have been infected, and you want us to isolate them?'
