Time for a roundup of what’s happening in the world of mystery news, from cult books to put on your TBR to Emmy nominations for a delightful, yet cancelled, murder mystery show!
All the Slow Horses Good News
Season Five of the hit Apple TV+ show will drop on September 24th, and Season Six has already been renewed, and now there’s even more to look forward to! “Apple TV+ has renewed the darkly comedic spy drama “Slow Horses” for a seventh season which will once again consist of six episodes.”
Sleuth Pairings!
The three series I’m already reading on this list are great—Ovidia Yu’s Su Lin Series, Stephen Spotswood’s Pentecost and Parker Series series, and Marcie R. Rendon’s Cash Blackbear series—so it seems worth checking out the other five books in this roundup of thrilling mystery novels with unexpected pairings, including a new Sherlock Holmes story.

May Netflix Forever Feel Shame for Canceling This Wonderful Mystery Show!
Netflix has cancelled The Residence, a delightful murder mystery starring Uzo Aduba as eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp, who is enlisted to solve the murder of a White House staffer during a state dinner. “Had The Residence gone to a second season, the plan was for the whodunnit to become an anthology series with Cupp taking on a new case each season,” which is exactly what audiences and critics wanted. Uzo Aduba received a Comedy Actress Emmy Nomination this week after the cancellation announcement, and it’s a shame this series won’t continue.
A Lot of Cults!
Earlier this month, Goodreads released a list of over 50 cult books – that’s a lot of cults! As they clarify, the “collection is pretty straightforward, but it does require some clarification up top. These aren’t cult books, as in ‘books that have developed a dedicated following.’ These are books about actual cults, cult-like phenomena, and basically all things cultish.”
A PI Returned Home!
If you’re looking for a new PI series to pick up, Delia Pitts was on CBS to talk about her second book in the Vandy Myrick series, Death of an Ex!
Give Me More Poker Face, Please!
Okay, so I’m not going to give any spoilers here for those who haven’t watched, but this article discusses the end of Poker Face Season Two! It also talks about all of Rian Johnson’s projects and, of course, a lot of mystery classics.
And a Couple Podcast Episodes!
