Author: Jenny Marcelene

Genre: Children’s Christian Fiction Books

MY REVIEW

What are some ways that children can learn about sharing God’s word with people around the world? Reading about how God’s word can get into countries where the Bible isn’t allowed, makes God’s plan understandable. We know that Christians’s are given a mission to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

This book is fictional, but creates an understandable way to teach children ages 6-10 about this mission and what they can do. As children think, a. fictional story makes explaining something complicated, easier.

In this book two brothers, Jason and Fred, come upon an old box. Their Bible camp director allows this old game box to be taken home with the boys. They are so excited. This begins their journey.

In Afghanistan, a young muslim boy has a dream about learning the truth about Jesus. At the same time, Jason and Fred begin to play the game. Inside the game is a map of the world and game pieces. They pick up a small red hot-air balloon. Then, a real hot-air balloon appears and they climb in.

They arrive in this country and are magically wearing clothes that boys wear there. They meet a friendly boy named Rehman. They visit his home and give him the holy book. They feel that their mission is complete, but there is only a small amount of time left before they must return.

They walk to school with Rehman and find another game piece shaped like a hot-air balloon. Rehman tells them that he can’t keep the New Testament. Instead of giving it back to Jason and Fred, Rehman takes them to visit a Muslim leader. He is actually been wanting to read the Bible. He keeps it and promises that Rehman can visit and read with him.

The brothers feel that their mission really is complete. But how are they to find home?

This is such an entertaining, yet serious, book to read with children. A make-believe tale will bring up many questions that parents can spend time answering. I think this is a great way to challenge and teach young ones, especially in a family setting.
