“And you’re Ashley Sorenson. Sorry to surprise you like this. I know you’ve had a long
day.” His tone was so polite, so normal. Like he was her best friend who’d decided to drop in.
She somehow found her voice as she slowly slid her hand under the flap of her purse’s
outer pocket. “You followed me?” If she could just get to her knife.
“Today? No. But I kept tabs on your movements.”
Kept tabs on her movements? What kind of stalker talked like that?
“Why don’t you sit down.” More of an order than a question. He pointed his hand at the
armchair next to the couch. Only a few feet away from him. “And I’d appreciate it if you took
your hand out of that pocket.”
She froze, her fingers touching the folded knife.
“The pocket of your purse there. This will go a lot easier if you don’t try to use that on
me.”
He knew about the knife? Did he have a weapon of his own? Maybe a gun.
