It’s a new month, which means we’ve got a new batch of page-to-screen adaptations to get excited about. We’ve got brand new series coming up on Prime Video, Netflix, and PBS. And one of your favorite Starz TV shows is coming back for its final season (yes, you probably know which one we’re talking about). There are also some highly anticipated film adaptations hitting theaters in the next few weeks. So let’s get right into everything coming up so that you can add them to your must-watch list!
Young Sherlock (Prime Video, March 4)
This upcoming British series is based on Andrew Lane’s young adult thriller novels of the same name. Young Sherlock is directed by Guy Ritchie. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will step into the role of Sherlock Holmes, a character originally created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Here, Sherlock is 19 years old and studying at Oxford University when he sets out to solve his first murder mystery. Joseph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Zine Tseng, Dónal Finn, Natascha McElhone, and Max Irons also star.
Vladimir (Netflix, March 5)
Vladimir is a dark comedy limited series based on the novel of the same name by Julia May Jonas. Rachel Weisz stars as M, a married college professor who becomes obsessed with a younger novelist named Vladimir (Leo Woodall) at the same time her husband (John Slattery) is being investigated for sexual misconduct. Author Julia May Jonas created the series and wrote many of the episodes. She also executive-produced alongside Weisz and showrunner Kate Robin. All eight episodes of the series will be out on Netflix on March 5.
The Bride! (Theatrical Release, March 6)
The Bride! is a gothic crime film that is inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein. Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, this film stars Jessie Buckley as a murdered woman who is resurrected to become Frankenstein’s monster’s bride. Christian Bale costars as Frankenstein’s monster (or just Frank). Also starring are Peter Skarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. The Bride! gets a wide theatrical release on March 6.
Outlander (Starz, March 6)
Another big must-watch out on March 6 is the eighth and final season of Outlander. Season 8 will cover the eighth and ninth books in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I’m Gone. There will apparently also be some elements from Gabaldon’s yet-to-be-released 10th Outlander novel, A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out. Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan return for the final season as Claire and Jamie Fraser.

Scarpetta (Prime Video, March 11)
This new series, developed by Liz Sarnoff, is based on the Scarpetta book series by Patricia Cornwell. Nicole Kidman stars as Kay Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist who brilliantly uses forensic technology to solve mysteries. Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, and Simon Baker star. The first season will consist of 8 episodes and premieres on Prime on March 11.
Reminders of Him (Theatrical Release, March 13)
The next big Colleen Hoover adaptation hits theaters this month! Maika Monroe stars as Kenna Rowan, an ex-convict who spent seven years in jail for causing a car accident that killed her boyfriend (played by Rudy Pankow). Tyriq Withers stars opposite Monroe as Ledger Ward, a former NFL player who gives Kenna an opportunity at a second chance. Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, Lainey Wilson, Jennifer Robertson, and Zoe Kosovic also star. The film is directed by Vanessa Caswill from a screenplay by Colleen Hoover and Lauren Levine.
That Night (Netflix, March 13)
This six-episode Netflix series is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Gillian McAllister. During a family vacation, Elena (played by Clara Galle) accidentally hits a man with her car and calls her two sisters (Claudia Salas and Paula Usero) to help her. The series was created by Jason George, who also executive-produced alongside Marian Fernández Pascal. Jorge Dorado and Liliana Torres direct.
Project Hail Mary (Theatrical Release, March 20)
This science fiction film is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, author of The Martian. This film will follow the story of astronaut Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling) as he wakes up in a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there or what his mission is. And as he slowly pieces the details together, he realizes that he is the last remaining member of a crew on a mission to save the world. The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The Count of Monte Cristo (PBS, March 22)
PBS’s Masterpiece adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo stars Sam Claflin as Edmond Dantès, a sailor who is falsely imprisoned and escapes on a mission to exact revenge on those who betrayed him. Ana Girardot will play Dantès’ fiancée Mercedes, Jeremy Irons will play Abbé Faria, and Blake Ritson will play Danglars. The series is directed by two-time Palme d’Or and Oscar-winner Bille August. If you have PBS Passport, you can stream the series starting March 1. Otherwise, it will broadcast on PBS starting on March 22.
Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole (Netflix, March 26)
This Norwegian crime drama is based on the Detective Hole series by Joe Nesbø. Tobias Santelmann is Harry Hole, an Oslo police detective who is trying to track down a serial killer while also dealing with a corrupt coworker (played by Joel Kinnaman). Oystein Karlsen and Anna Zackrisson direct the series. Author Jo Nesbø executive produces alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Øystein Karlsen, and Niclas Salomonsson.
