About the Book

Title: Ashton Series: Yellowstone Descendants #1 Author: Anne Perreault Publisher: Independently Published Release Date: October 1, 2025 Genre: Christian Fiction/Contemporary Western RomanceReturn to Yellowstone with the next generation of our beloved characters from the original series.Saddlehorn, MT Ashton Anderson, former town sweetheart and prodigal son of rancher Clint Anderson, has finally returned home. Where has he been for the last ten years, you ask? Apparently, working a smaller rodeo circuit up north. With his strength and skill, he should have done well, but he has returned battered, bruised, and grieving the loss of his faithful gelding, Dusty. As for the girlfriend who turned down his marriage proposal all those years ago . . . Kelsey Winters has left her less-than-idyllic past behind. She now helps others as a therapist at the therapeutic riding center outside of town, although her own personal life seems to be a solid mess. She’s tried to be a good older sister to her brother, Darren, but she can’t protect him—or herself—from his poor choices. They’re one bad decision away from homelessness when they’re robbed and Darren is put in jail for possession of a controlled substance. Due to circumstances beyond their control, Kelsey and Ashton’s long-ago romance resurfaces. But will it leave the gate running, or suffer a colossal wreck? More in This Series

Can you tell us more about this new series, Yellowstone Descendants?
Thank you. I’m very excited about this series since it’s my first spin-off series. The original Yellowstone series is among my best-loved series, and it was such a pleasure to get it started with Ashton, who is the son of one of our male main characters in the Yellowstone series. Clint, Ashton’s father, is seen throughout the original series, and we meet Ashton in book 3. His mother is Ashley, another main character who appears in the first two books. I loved the little boy Ashton so much that I knew I had to write his story. But I also needed there to be time for all my characters to grow into adults. Therefore, I waited and waited until I felt a nudge to write the series.
The Yellowstone Descendants series has an underlying theme of prodigal son/daughter of redemption, small town, second chances. This series is steeped in mystery and adventure. Because I love horses, and Clint and Ashton both are cowboys, horses play a huge part, especially in Ashton’s story.
Ashton, Yellowstone book 1 is about Ashton, Clint, and Ashley’s son, who is the first prodigal. Ashton has cut ties with his family for ten years, and tragedy drives him back home, where he fears the consequences of his decisions. But instead of being rebuked, he is welcomed back into the fold of the family. Well, all welcome him except for the reason he left; his almost-fiancée.
People who love the Canadian TV series Heartland will love this book.
Ryley, Yellowstone Descendants Book 2, coming out in May (tentatively) is about Ryley, the daughter of the main characters from the Yellowstone series, Cady and Grant. We also meet her in book 3 of the Yellowstone series for the first time. She’s grown up as well and is a sheriff’s deputy in their small town. Her adventure is … exciting and filled with danger. We have a fake marriage trope and forced proximity. Ryley is filled with banter between her and the mmc. I have had the best time with these two.
Anyone who enjoys the TV show Longmire will love this book as well.
Book 3, Nate, will come out later in the year. I haven’t quite written it yet, but the story has been percolating in my brain. Nate was always one of my favorite characters in the original series. He was a six year old boy when we first set foot into Yellowstone. His parents are Jim and Bridget, Grant McClintoch’s best friends. His father, Jim, was Grant’s boss as a ranger at Yellowstone National Park. Nate has decided to become a game warden, unlike his father. His story will also be steeped in danger. It’s another prodigal theme. The tropes are friends-to-more, small town.
Nate will have the same feel as the Netflix series Untamed or the Prime series Joe Pickett.
I saw that your first book was written for your 12-year old, who you homeschooled. I also homeschooled 3 children, and I wonder how that experience changed your writing?
The first book, the one I wrote for my daughter, will never be published because I was practicing. I did write it for her because I found that the books for young girls weren’t suitable for a young woman following after God, and I wanted to write something suitable for her that edified her in her walk.
That mentality has shaped all my writing because I always feel the hand of the Lord guiding me. My mission statement is, To produce books that inspire and invite the reader into a relationship with God. When I started to write, the Lord gave me Luke 1:38 Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
However, The Royal Skater Chronicles is considered YA. It is my first published series and the story was with me for 30 plus years until God coaxed it out of me and had me publish it. Yes, he coaxed it in a very insistent manner because I never imagined myself as a writer.
Whenever I start a new book, I start with prayer that God would guide my writing process. I’ve experienced it that when I wanted to go a certain direction, God didn’t agree with me. As a result, my laptop continually shut down until I realized what was happening. Once I changed my thought, followed where the Lord wanted me to go, it never happened again.
I hope that my books are clean enough for anyone to feel comfortable reading them but it is also something that depends on the individual. I enjoy writing about relationships, including the one we have with the Lord.
Many of your book covers picture beautiful horses. Because you are a certified therapeutic riding instructor, does that influence the way horses are written into your books?
Absolutely! Horses used to be my life. They are still important to me as my family continues to work with horses. My son is a farrier out in California, something that was influenced by the fact that he spent most of his childhood around horses. His daughter, who is almost 4, has started riding lessons as well.
Although I don’t own horses anymore or work with them on a daily basis, I know horses intimately, something that I’ve managed to translate into my stories. One of my fellow author friends told me that I write the best horses and that the horses in my books feel real. Most of the horses in my books are based on horses that I had the honor of knowing well. The horse in Love the Lord your God… is based on an amazing horse I had the pleasure of riding. My own horses also found themself in my books. Bucephelus, the horse in Finding Courage, is very loosely based on my pinto gelding, Thunder. Ahlrich and Silver are a combination of my horses Thunder and Grace, an off-the-track Thoroughbred.
I love writing horses into my stories because I miss working with them. And so, I live vicariously through my characters. In The Liberator series, my main character, Petra, is an international show jumper, which was one of my wildest dreams. Her horse,
