Chapter 1: A Moment

Megan glanced at the clock on her desk. It was 2:47 PM, the kind of hour where the day stretched endlessly ahead, offering little in the way of excitement. She sighed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she stared at the emails piling up. Her work in marketing had become mechanical—just another part of the predictable routine of her life.

She didn’t hear him approach. But the sudden presence next to her desk snapped her out of her thoughts.

“Hey, sorry to interrupt,” a voice said. It was light, almost apologetic, yet there was something magnetic about it.

Megan looked up. Standing there was Tez, the new hire everyone in the office had been buzzing about. Tall, with an easy smile and eyes that seemed to hold just the right amount of mischief. He looked younger than most of the team—energetic in a way that made Megan immediately aware of her own exhaustion.

“I’m Tez,” he said, offering a hand. “I just started this week in the creative department. I was told you’re the go-to for anything marketing-related?”

Megan blinked for a second, then took his hand. “Megan,” she introduced herself, forcing her brain to switch back into professional mode. “Yeah, I handle most of the campaigns.”
