Here are the five books of the summer (so far)! They include dystopia, thrillers, romance, and historical fiction. One interesting development is that #5 didn’t show up on any of the previous “Most Read Books on Goodreads This Week” lists in June; it has been in the top ten, but this is the first time it’s cracked the top five. Romance readers especially love a seasonal read, and this summer romance seems to be the pick for 2025!
We’re also seeing some titles that have been dominating this list slide lower in the rankings, like Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins. Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid only came June 3rd, and it’s been getting good reviews, so I expect it will be at the top of the July list.
But before we get into the biggest books of the moment, let’s talk about a couple of books that came out last month that deserve more attention.
Two Books Out in June You Should Know About
Unfortunately, the most read books on Goodreads tend not to be diverse by any definition of the word. So, here are a couple of books out last month that deserve wider readership.
King of Ashes by S. A. Cosby
Roman Carruthers returns to his hometown when his father ends up in a coma. But that quickly becomes the least of his problems when, in trying to save his brother from a bad decision, he finds himself in the position of needing to outwit the local crime boss. His sister, now running the family crematorium, knows Roman is up to something and is becoming increasingly convinced that their father was responsible for their mother’s disappearance when they were teenagers. Every move Roman makes to try and protect his family ends up putting them deeper in danger… — Jamie Canaves
Meet Me at the Crossroads by Megan Giddings
Everyone has different reactions when suddenly, all across the world, seven doors open up portals to another world. It’s a world that seems like a beautiful paradise. But what’s the catch? For twin sisters Ayanna and Olivia, the world beyond means different things, but for each, it offers a chance for exploration. Then one of the sisters goes missing, and it soon becomes clear that the world beyond is filled with danger. — Emily Martin

The Most Read Books on Goodreads This Week
#5:
One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune
Romance readers love a seasonal read, and this looks like it’s the summer romance of the year! It follows Alice, who spent a perfect summer at her Nan’s cottage when she was 17. Now an adult, she returns to take care of her injured Nan—only to run into the guy who she crushed on as a teen. But is this a summer fling or something more? This one was read by almost 75,000 users in June and has a 4.4 average rating.
#4:
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Taylor Jenkins Reid is best known for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six. Now, she’s back with a new novel about two women astronauts in the 1980s. It came out June 3rd and became an instant #1 New York Times bestseller. It’s also a Good Morning America Book Club Pick. Almost 84,000 Goodreads users marked it as read in June, and it has a 4.5 average rating.
#3:
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games series is still just as relevant (if not more so) than it was when it started more than 15 years ago. Collins’s latest, which tells Haymitch Abernathy’s story, also sold 1.5 million copies in English in its first week. It was read by almost 91,000 users in June and has a 4.6 average rating.
#2:
The Tenant by Freida McFadden
McFadden has been a familiar name in this feature ever since The Housemaid exploded onto the bestseller lists. In her newest thriller, Blake and his fiancée rent out a room in their house to a new tenant. Soon, strange things start happening around the house, and the neighbors begin treating them differently. This one was read by almost 113,000 Goodreads users in June, and it has a 3.9 average rating.
#1:
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
Emily Henry is a staple author on the bestseller lists and the Goodreads most read list, so it’s no surprise to see her newest title here. It follows two writers competing to write the official biography of a reclusive heiress. It was read by almost 117,000 users last month and has a 4.0 average rating.
