Hello, fellow nerds! Let’s take a look at some of the biggest headlines from the past few weeks.

News From DC and Marvel

Courtesy of Sony Pictures
  • The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer dropped!
  • Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart has been confirmed to appear in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
  • Speaking of Green Lantern, Lanterns co-creator Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Grant Morrison apparently disagree over how to approach the very concept of the Green Lantern Corps, with Lindelof joking that the “green” part is “stupid” and Morrison raking him over the coals. Lindelhof later apologized in a “some of my best friends are green” sort of way. While it’s too soon to pass judgment (the show’s not even on yet), I personally don’t care for programs that take on characters only to make them utterly unrecognizable in the name of “realism” or “broader appeal.” Is Lanterns one of those shows? Time will tell…
  • X-Men ’97 is getting a second season this summer. Before then, you can check out the prequel comic book series, the first issue of which goes on sale June 3.
  • Matthew Lillard talked with Entertainment Weekly about how playing Dungeons & Dragons got him the role of Mr. Charles in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
  • Ryan Gosling really, really wants to play Ghost Rider. Will it happen? There’s nothing definitive yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

News From the Wider Comics World

  • Emerald City Comic Con happened! Here are all the big headlines. Personally, I am most excited about the news that Check, Please! has been optioned as a TV series and am on my knees begging that it gets across the finish line! No such thing as too many queer hockey romance shows, says I!
  • Margeaux Pepoy, the Eisner Award-winning creator best known for The Adventures of Simone and Ajax, has come out as trans. Congrats and best wishes!
  • The manga Hirayasumi is getting an anime adaptation next year!
  • The Diamond bankruptcy is still plodding along, with publishers trying to get their inventory back from the defunct distributor.
  • IDW Publishing has launched two new podcasts about (what else?) comics and the comic book industry.
