The fall months are the best time of the year to be a book reader. The weather is getting cooler. Everyone is heading back to school and getting more serious about setting goals and accomplishing things. It’s time to break out the sweaters, head to a coffee shop to order your favorite hot beverage, and really get in some cozy hours reading a new release. It’s not just a feeling. It’s true. That’s why all the best books of the year come out in the fall. Don’t believe me? Just check out these three upcoming releases. These books are going to be a huge deal.
We Love You, Bunny by Mona Awad (S&S/ Marysue Rucci Books, September 23)
Mona Awad’s Bunny came out in 2019, and we’re all still talking about it. In this sequel to the cult classic, former MFA student Samantha Heather Mackey has published a critically acclaimed novel, based on her experiences with a cultish clique of girls called the Bunnies. Sam’s book is a huge success, but the Bunnies aren’t so pleased with their portrayal in the novel. So when Sam’s book tour stops in New England, the Bunnies capture her.
The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai (Hogarth, September 23)
This is a literary love story about two people whose lives are intrinsically connected between families and across countries. In America, Sonia (living in Vermont) and Sunny (living in Brooklyn) are incredibly lonely. Both of their families back in India have no idea how their loved ones can feel so alone. In their country, they are surrounded by family and loved ones. So, the two families plan a meeting between Sonia and Sunny, but will all the meddling derail the love Sonia and Sunny could have for one another before they even get a chance to explore it?
The Unveiling by Quan Barry (Grove Press, October 14)
Last but not least, this fall also brings us a new literary horror novel from Quan Barry, author of We Ride Upon Sticks and When I’m Gone, Look for Me. On a luxury Antarctic cruise, Striker, a Black film scout, is looking to capture locations for a potential big-budget movie about Ernest Shackleton’s doomed expedition. But then an excursion goes terribly wrong, and Striker finds herself—along with a small group of survivors—stranded in the middle of the Antarctic, with little hope for escape.
