Another season of the Netflix adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton has come and gone, but fear not, there is going to be more. In the meantime, you’ve finished season four of the wildly popular Regency romance show—now what? Well, why not try a Regency fantasy novel?
Hear me out: These books have romance, high society, and manners, but also a little something otherworldly, like magic or monsters. It’s always good to try new things, and you may find that you are a fan of the genre! The Regency fantasy novels below are a great place to start while you wait for the Bridgerton siblings to return.
Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater
After being cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings was left with only half a soul. This removed her senses of fear and embarrassment, which gets her into a lot of scandalous situations. Then she meets Elias Wilder, a widely loathed London lord, who is drawn to Dora’s unconventional ways. Together, they may be able to help each other out as the London Season approaches.

Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho
Once upon a time, England was a country full of magic. But those days have passed. And now, with magic resources drying up, it’s up to Zacharias Wythe, the Sorcerer Royal of the Unnatural Philosophers, to find out why. As he travels to Fairyland for answers, he meets Prunella Gentlewoman, who will change everything for Zacharias and England.
The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk
In this sweeping standalone fantasy, women have the ability to perform magic, but it is taken from them when they marry. Beatrice Clayborn doesn’t want to be a wife, she wants to be a Magus, but her family’s prosperity depends on her making a good match. When she finds a book that can make her Magus dream come true, she must decide if going against her family’s plans is what she really wants.
Manners and Monsters by Tilly Wallace
Hannah Miles is a lady, but she also knows a thing or two about science and a new affliction, thanks to her parents and their research. So when someone is murdered at her BFF’s engagement party (rude), she knows it’s not so much who is responsible but what. Using her scientific knowledge, Hannah joins up with a viscount to find a killer before another society member becomes lunch.
Okay, star bits, now take the knowledge you have learned here today and use it for good, not evil. If you want to know more about books, I talk about books pretty much nonstop (when I’m not reading them), and you can hear me say lots of adjectives about them on the BR podcast All the Books! and on Instagram.
