A Manor’s Sinister Secrets, Love Magic Gone Wrong, and More New YA Books for July 15, 2026

If you haven’t yet blocked out a day or a weekend or longer to toss aside your responsibilities and spend the day reading–be it in bed, a hammock, poolside, or a café–here’s your reminder to do that. Even if it feels like it would be impossible to do with your schedule, consider where or how you can dedicate lunchtime or post-dinner hours to doing nothing but reading what you’d like. Prioritizing it makes it more likely to become a habit. I know that when I began 2026, my goal was to read more every day, and while that’s gone up and down (normal), I always feel better at the end of the day when my hour before bed is spent reading and not scrolling. It really does help me reach for a book during my lunch time, too, rather than passively scroll. It’s not like the digital device is going to deliver good news, while I know the act of reading itself will always be satisfying.

One bit of good news, though, is that we’re halfway through July and the new YA book releases keep coming. There hasn’t been a real slowdown this year, and even though fewer titles will hit shelves over the next several weeks, these aren’t empty weeks, either.

New YA book releases this week include a story of a family’s love magic (and the curses it may hold), a story of a prairie that’s anything but serene, a manor house filled with secrets, and more. If you, like me, love horror, it’s an especially great week for YA scares.

the broken edge of the world book cover

The Broken Edge of the World by Alena Bruzas

Sylvie takes a summer job at a remote prairie preserve as a way of getting away from her life. She’s struggled with several mental health challenges, and she’s eager to get away from her cruel father. At this job, she’s finding herself drawn to a mysterious boy at night that she’s been told to avoid. There’s also a strange boy named Jack with whom she’s developed a friendship.

Between these two relationships, Sylvie is beginning to see there’s something mysterious going on at this preserve. It’s weird because this place feels like the most at home she’s ever been. But as Sylvie uncovers more of the place’s story, she realizes there’s a curse keeping people here. Can she be the one to undo the curse–and if she does, will she cause more harm than she could imagine?

This one’s being compared to Grimm’s fairy tales and modern thrillers.

Lovestuck by Farah Naz Rishi

Riya has several sisters, but she’s the only one who received the family’s peri magic. It’s emotion magic, tied to the power of love. Mel wants to catch her crush’s eye.

Mel finally wears Riya down, and unfortunately, it’s not a tiny love spell cast. It’s a curse, and it’s been placed on the school’s bad boy, Kian Kho, who is now obsessed with Riya. If Riya doesn’t reverse the curse by the next full moon, Kian may be physically heartbroken for life.

As much as Riya wants to forget about her peri magic, mastering it is the only way she’ll be able to save Kian and herself.

How to Survive a Slasher by Justine Pucella Winans

CJ Smith survived the Satterville Wolf Man. She doesn’t revel in living through hell, though. It’s impossible, since her story and the stories of those who weren’t so lucky were the inspiration for a bestselling book series. So when an unpublished addition to the book series shows up at her door, CJ is a little annoyed. That annoyance turns to fear, though, as things in the book start to happen around her, as if predicting the future. When CJ breaks her rule of trying to blend in and not draw attention to her experiences, the person who was supposed to survive the latest Wolf Man attacks ends up dead.

It’s now up to CJ to figure out how to survive the latest round of attacks and help save as many people as possible.
