Lionet: A Bumblebee's Loves by Adrie Hastings
"If you are looking for a faith-based book filled with vibrant and whimsical illustrations and lyrical writing, look no further."
Children’s books are meant to encourage young readers to learn about new topics by putting them in terms kids can understand. Sometimes complex topics such as religion can go over their little heads, so providing children with a story about characters they are already familiar with can help them understand the bigger message woven throughout the story. Lionet: A Bumblebee’s Love by Adrie Hastings is a great example of this.
A Brave Bee to the Rescue!
Lionet, named by his Queen Amber who saw a ferocity in him, is the first male bumblebee in his colony to have emerged from his cocoon and it is a blessed day! Upon leaving his underground colony and entering the world for the first time, Roslyn, the enchanting smelling rosebush, put a spell of sorts on Lionet.
Queen Amber tries to explain that Lionet’s fascination with Roslyn’s sweet rosy scent will fade once meeting and getting to know her. Much to Queen Amber’s displeasure Lionet only becomes more infatuated with Roslyn. Throughout this story, Lionet finds himself in several different scrapes of danger, and his unusual ways of dealing with these problems is risky behavior that undermines the stability of the whole colony.
Not only is the colony in danger, but Roslyn and her garden are facing terrible destruction. While Lionet may be a bit different, it’s up to this bumblebee and his bravery, loyalty, and love to save his colony, while Roslyn’s faith in God that will save her garden.
On the surface, this may seem like a lighthearted children’s book, but deep down the message shows that although you might be different, you are still worthy of love. Lionet saw how different he was, but he didn’t let that stop him from being the loving bumblebee he was meant to be!
Lessons of Loyalty, Faith and Forgiveness
Along with a reminder that it’s okay to be ourselves, Lionet: A Bumblebee’s Love also teaches a lesson about the importance of forgiveness and faith. With those two attributes in mind, you will be able to overcome any of life’s hurdles along the way.
Author Adrie Hastings wrote this story to share her love of God and all His creations with the world! In the book’s preface, she tells us that He is always with us. As long as we have faith in Him, He won’t give us anything we can’t handle and will send blessings our way.
Not only does the author’s love of God and His word shine through this story, but also her love for research! About the Author:
Adrienne Hastings enjoyed writing since she first picked up a pencil and paper. This story came about after she graduated from high school and read
someone else’s book — it made her think of a rosebush and a bumblebee! She worked on this story for a long time. She and it matured and changed. But the two characters, the rosebush and the bumblebee, were always there. Publishers’ rejections had been positive and helpful, but something was missing. Adrienne set the story aside.
Later, Adrienne studied our Father’s Word and got to know and love Him as she’d never known or loved anyone. She felt inspired to use her story to express her devotion to Him. But she still needed His help. She prayed and He blessed her with words and further insights until her story was complete. There was nothing missing anymore! Adrienne and her husband reside in beautiful lake-filled Minnesota.
