Isabelle Popp has written all sorts of things, ranging from astrophysics research articles and math tests to crossword puzzles and poetry. These days she's writing romance. When she's not reading or writing, she's probably knitting or scouring used book stores for vintage gothic romance paperbacks. Originally from New York, she's as surprised as anyone that she lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
November is a liminal month: for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we’ve passed autumnal splendor. We’re waiting for that winter wonder to settle over us as a glittering blanket. It’s the run-up to the most festive time of many people’s year: lights lit, gifts acquired, and menus planned. Whether you want to hunker down in the gathering darkness or avoid familial obligations, it’s a great time to pick up a romance book.
November has some books I have been on tenterhooks waiting for. I noticed that it’s a bit of a funny month for romance releases, after the huge wave of autumn and holiday books that came out from August through October. Though this list isn’t long, I’ve tried to capture a breadth of genres. I always include books from traditional publishers and some self-published by the authors. There are some big names in addition to authors and titles that may be flying under your radar. Finally, none of these books requires you to have read anything else in a series.
I know most of us have daunting TBR piles, but honestly, what are a few more books on the list? We can be ambitious. As you’re contemplating your reading goals through the end of the calendar year, I hope you find something on this list to bump to the top of yours.
After Hours at Dooryard Books by Cat Sebastian
A new Cat Sebastian book is always cause for celebration. This historical romance, set in 1968 New York City, follows Patrick, who works at a bookstore patronized by anti-war radicals. He takes in Nathaniel, a drifter looking to lie low. This sounds like the perfect setup for a classic Cat Sebastian, in which two men pine for each other until they can’t pine any longer.
